The Blue Butterfly Art Space & Studio ("a place to display, create & play") was established in 2009 by (now  locally living) Kiwi Cartoonist, Teacher & Entertainer Brent Harpur.

It is a space that celebrates art in ALL its wonderful diversity and forms, from the visual arts to the performing arts. In recent times it has hosted everything from cartooning classes to a performace from a local belly dancer!!

This 1901 shop front was originally (lovingly) set up by Brent as a venue for his unique art & cartooning classes (for kids & adults) and also to teach one on one tution.

But more recently, Brent has also started using this space as a venue for live performances & house concerts. And with lots of wall space (and two shopfront windows with 24hr exposure), to also showcase the artworks of local (and international) artists, through constantly changing exhibitions.

Brent is quick to add that this space/venue is NOT a gallery. It is a public art space & venue, ideally where artists and non-artists alike (of all ages, abilities, mediums & backgrounds) can come together, gather, network, and make some new friends.

Brent tries to open the space to the public every Sat & Sun, from approximately 12-5pm, but this is not always possible due to his working as a roving cartoonist, entertainer and teacher/facilitator. He is always open by appointment though, so please give him a call today and make a time to pop in a for a free coffee & cartoon!

Brent is also available for commission work in his studio (paintings, cartoons, caricatures, tailormade poetry). And out in public, he teaches, entertains and cartoons, everywhere from kids' parties to corporate events, weddings, conferences, festivals and schools / pre-schools. Recently, Brent was even paid to entertain customers at a local bank in Newtown. So, he confesses, he will work anywhere!
